The Write to Teach…

I often ponder what my life would have been like, had I gone down the road my parents so wish I had. I would be sitting today, before a classroom full of pre-pubescent know–it-alls, rolling my eyes at the mundane lesson I must teach each and every day, in the hopes that at least one of them will find some sort of inspiration from it.
Then I would go home, and try to find the energy to engage in my passion: writing. Only I wouldn’t. I would find every excuse in the world to distract myself from it and be angry with myself for not following my childhood dream. I would feed my cat, pick up the papers that must be marked for tomorrows class, brew a hot pot of tea and go to work.
Society would appreciate this life, and so would my parents. However I could not, and would not, or maybe I would?
However here I am, wondering what my excuse is today.
